Hot Peculiarities of Post-Rolling Cooling of the Hot-Rolled Coil of Advanced High-Strength Steel

Evgueni Nikitenko, U. S. Steel Research and Technology Center

Post-rolling cooling of hot-rolled strips of advanced high-strength steel (AHSS) grades is of the utmost importance for producing a material with desirable properties. Such cooling includes two stages: water cooling on the runout table of the hot strip mill and subsequent air cooling of the coil after removing it from the coiler mandrel. The industry practice shows that some AHSS grades do not undergo phase transformation on the runout table. Thus, the final phase composition and properties are formed during air cooling. The current study discusses a method of predicting the phase transformation and mechanical properties of the coiled material.
