Fundamentals of Slag-Steel-Inclusion Multiphase Reactions for Producing Clean Steels During Secondary Refining and Continuous Casting Process

The probability of high-alumina inclusion is strongly affected by slag chemistry and deoxidation practices. Moreover, the viscosity of the slag should also be carefully controlled to suppress this harmful inclusion at the secondary refining stage. Alternatively, tundish metallurgy has been issued because it is the final reactor for controlling steel cleanliness in view of the reoxidation of molten steel. The reoxidation is experienced by the contamination of steel not only due to air entrapment but also due to slag-metal reaction. Consequently, the recent issues for the physicochemical properties of slag will be discussed in terms of clean steel production technologies.
